The word Kaizen means change for the better. Kaizen is a work methodology that encourages constant and incremental improvements. Kaizen is planned and executed at meetings intended to achieve clearly defined goals. Such goals result from a prior identification of factory-floor needs, such as the need to enhance one particular cell productivity, increase the available time for a piece of equipment, reduce setup time, cut inventory, expand the manufacturing area, etc.
For this type of meeting, a multifunctional group is required to present a solution that will meet the established goal. The proposed solutions may involve TPM, SMED (quick setup), manufacturing cells, 5S, and other tools.
